The official video for Empire State of Mind, directed by Hype Williams syncs up a montage of photos to the beat while illustrating the lyrics of the song.
This song will never cease to give me goosebumps. While out on Saturday night, we first heard it while walking down the street to the subway and a car driving by had it blasting out the windows. Next we heard it at The Stanton Social, while eating dinner. And we were graced with the track one more time while out dancing later that night. No matter where and/or when, I hear this song, and I remember how blessed I am to be able to live here.
Blu recently came to my attention via my old friend C.McD, who hit me up the other day reminding me that this significant artist was missing from the PrimaMag list.
I first heard the sounds of Blu on the 10 Deep "The New Deal" Mixtape, but little did I know this kid had such an old soul sound. On his mixtape "Her Favorite Colo(u)r" he samples of Billie Holiday on the track "Amnesia", which is by far one of my favorite tracks on the mixtape. In 2007 he came out with an album title "Below the Heavens" which is also of high quality.
Oh, and I just discovered this morning that he had a show last night at BLVD on Bowery for a CMJ showcase. Damn, I walked right past this venue last night, and had no idea. Day late, dolla short.
Lupe Fiasco’s latest leak comes in the form of “Fire”, another classic cut from the Hip-Hop MC. Adding to the always popular lyrical barrage, Lupe fuses a Jimi Hendrix sample into the mix. Definitely a good track that could possibly makes an appearance on Lasers, Fiasco’s highly anticipated third album.
She's a little booty girl. . .saucy with a twist, if you bossy do it like this. . .
Yes. More Thunderheist for your viewing pleasure. I can't wait for them to stop through New York for a show. In the meantime, enjoy this latest video for Little Booty Girl. I love the styling for Isis. There's something about the simplicity of some booty cutoffs (with gold spandex underneath), a padded cap sleeve tee and gold chain.
I was recently graced with the Thunderheist album. . .hit me up in the comments if your ears need some pleasure.
Yes. Thunderheist. I downloaded this video a long long while ago, but never thought twice to look up Thunderheist for more tracks. But I finally have and DAMN, I can't get enough. I'll be posting more goodness from them soon. Jump for more info & the mp3 »
Paloma Faith. Aside from being gorgeously stunning, she has an amazingly powerful voice. Her style is so breathtaking I had a difficult time deciding which image to post alongside the audio. Do yourself a favor and view her extraordinary portraits and album cover images here, or read her very unusual bio here.
Hit me up in the comments if you're interested in more of Paloma's sounds.
This post was originally showcasing the 9-11 performance but taken down due to rights issues. Here's the MTV VMA performace with Alicia Keys performing alongside Jay-Z.
I dare you not to have chills while watching this. The background lights of the city is breathtaking.
